Behind the experiment

Face Finder tries the browser’s native FaceDetector API, then falls back to MediaPipe. The mesh and movement effects use MediaPipe Face Landmarker. ASCII and pixels are drawn with Canvas 2D. Detection runs in a worker so the interface can stay responsive. Mood Mirror turns smile, brow, mouth and eye movements into a color and a playful mood guess. Mouth Shapes tracks lip openness and width, with four illustrated targets to try. Head & Eyes shows approximate head orientation, relative iris movement, and blink cycles. Mesh layers, feature contours, labels, and upper/lower regions can be switched independently. Face Metrics adds lip-seal and symmetry guides, relative jaw motion, and a short movement history. Mouth Shapes includes an ordered hold-and-release sequence. Tracking diagnostics show actual model timing and landmark availability.

This playground tracks face shapes and visible movements. It doesn’t identify people. Mood Mirror uses simple expression rules; a face alone cannot tell us how someone feels. Images and video stay in this browser tab; nothing is recorded or uploaded.
